US President Donald Trump’ upgraded limo aptly called, The Beast, will be put to service by this month. The bomb proof Cadillac One has been designed to survive a military-style or chemical warfare attack. Let’s take a look at the new limo which will be responsible for the safety of the new US President.
General Motors has made a fleet of 12 cars that are rotated and sent ahead of a planned presidential visit across the globe. Though not much is known of the engine, the car appears to run on diesel due to the oversized rectangular fuel filler door.
The Presidential Cadillac One has a five-inche wide military grade armour which is a combination of dual hardness steel, aluminium, titanium and ceramic to break up projectiles. The car’s Kevlar tyres are shred and puncture resistant and can run even if they are flat with the help of steel rims underneath.
Pump-action shotguns and tear gas cannons are hidden inside the car, inlcuding one gun behind the front grille of the vehicle which can be used to fire on an attacker. The Beast also has night vision cameras on the grille.
The windows are five layers of glass and polycarbonate that can withstand armour piercing bullets. Only driver’s window can be opened in the car, that too by just three inches.
The front windscreen can withstand armour piercing bullets or a .44 magnum and the bodywork is military grade and five inches thick.
The doors are armour-plated and eight inches thick with the weight of a cabin door on a Boeing 757 jet. When closed they form a 100% seal to protect the occupants in the event of a chemical attack.
The fuel tank is armour-plated and filled with a special foam that prevents it from exploding even after a direct hit.
The president’s seat has a satellite phone with a direct line to the Vice President and the Pentagon.
In the boot there are firefighting system, an oxygen system in the trunk in case of a chemical attack, tear gas and smoke-screen dispensers along with bags of the President’s Rh-negative blood type in case of an emergency transfusion.
The US President will be driven around by a secret service agent who has been trained to cope with almost any demanding driving conditions including escape and evasion and a full-speed 180 degree ‘J-turn’.
The Beast also has night vision cameras on board and appears to run on diesel due to the oversized rectangular fuel filler door. The Beast is not the only hi-tech vehicle in the Presidential fleet.
Among the motorcade is the President’s own communications antenna – a mobile cellphone tower strapped to the top of a car in his motorcade. There will also be a military aide carrying the ‘Nuclear Football’, which is the briefcase which stores instructions in case of a military attack.
